2014 Ed Burke Million Futurity

The first Saturday in May begins the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing, but for fans of quarter horse action, the one million dollar Cash Bonanza at Los Alamitos can stir an equal amount of anticipation and excitement. The Bonanza is a succession of three Grade one events for juveniles, and it is comprised of the Ed Burke Million Futurity, the Golden State Million Futurity, and the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. Should a horse be victorious in all three prestigious races, the horse's owner, along with the nominator into each race, will share in the one million dollar Cash Bonanza bonus.

Ten two-year-olds will compete this evening in hopes of bringing home the Ed Burke Million Futurity title. The 3/5 morning line favorite is Heza Dasha Fire for Jose Flores. He has been thoroughly dominant in his first two career starts, winning his inaugural race by two and three quarter lengths, and posting the fastest trial time by two-tenths of a second in his next outing. Heza Dasha Fire will be breaking from the rail post and will be ridden by leading rider Cruz Mendez. Four fillies help round out this field and trainers Jaime Gomez and Juan Aleman will both saddle multiple entrants.

Two thoroughbred races are listed on tonight's card, as well as the Ed Burke Juvenile Stakes coming in race number four, but unquestionably, the night belongs to the grade one feature that will be run in race number nine. The horse racing world was already on the brink of a Triple Crown once this year, and only time can tell if we will return to this magical place yet again.

Early Pick Four

1) 1,2,3,4,5 (If front end speed falters, look for Right On Schedule to pick up the pieces)
2) 1,4,5 (With a clean break, All about Dash for Jaime Gomez can spring the upset)
3) 4,8 (Mud Flying has faced better and draws outside in this battle of maidens)
4) 6 (Ivalreadygone should relish the distance and will score the upset with Cesar De Alba aboard)

The Swing Race Trifecta

5) 6/3,5/2,3,4,5 (Primistal Peak for Brian Koriner and Ramon Guce crush in a paid workout)

Late Pick Four

6) 3,5 (Navea with Carlos Huerta score off the layoff for Morales)
7) 2,4,5,6 (Fall For This Guy can outrun his competition from the outside post)
8) 2,3,4,5 (Ric Oh Shay for James Glenn excels at the distance and is our price play of the evening)
9) 1 (Heza Dasha Fire stakes his claim as the best two-year-old in the country)

Best of luck tonight, and here is to the crowning of the Ed Burke Million Futurity Champion!
